There are a couple of specific things I need you all to be in prayer for. One is my daughter, away at college. She’s missing the “wide open spaces” of home and says she wants to come home. She’s also feeling a bit out of her depth in her stated major (interior design) right now, and is thinking about switching. But she has no idea what she would change it to. Ask God to help her persevere, and to give us wisdom about the change of major.
And pray for my health. Today I saw a surgeon about my parathyroid. I was very impressed with his manner and forthcoming attitude. The bottom line is that I may not need to have parathyroid surgery at all ... he's going to discuss it with my nephrologist. Especially since I have no symptoms except high PTH numbers. The surgery sounds moderately complicated and would mean at least a few days in the hospital. They'd make an incision in the base of my neck in front. “Explore” for the four small parathyroid glands on each side ... then small portions of them would be replaced in my body, most likely in one of my forearms. Weird, huh. Then I'd be monitored in the hospital for calcium levels and when those even out, I'd be able to go home. A possible risk of the surgery is that a nerve going to my larynx could be damaged, so that temporarily or even permanently I might talk with a whispery, raspy voice. As fun as it might be to have a sexy, throaty voice, it could put an end to any singing for a while. And that would make me sad. I’d really like for this cup to just pass me by, if possible.
