Giving Thanks 25: Food
I'm thankful today for food, in all of its many different, tasty glorious forms. I'm thankful for meat: golden brown roasted turkey, rare roast beef, succulent ham. For fish and seafood. For eggs, butter, cream and cheese. For vegetables and fruits, for nuts and berries. For all the different grains God has given us for bread and cereal. For drink: milk and juice, sweet pure water. For wine and beer and distilled spirits of all kinds.
Now that the holidays are upon us, with all of their emphasis on food, let's give thanks for all of its goodness. And while you're at it, go take a few minutes to read Wade Hodges' meditations on the theology of food. Here's the line I copied down to save: "God rooted the memory of his greatest deeds in food. Israel was taught that one of the best ways to celebrate and remember God's goodness was to sit down and enjoy a good meal."
