Mulch is my new best friend in the garden. My big home project since I was laid off from my job has been to thoroughly weed the backyard border garden and put down mulch, which greatly reduces the need to constantly pull weeds.
Another continuing problem we've had with the border gardens in front and back is keeping the weeds and grass trimmed around the stones that form the edge between the garden and the lawn. I hit on the solution of laying down a narrow border of mulch next to the stones, so Ken can run the mower wheels along the strip of mulch and trim the grass more effectively.
I think it looks really neat, even if I do say so myself.
Or get rid of the stones altogether. I used to struggle around those annoying stones until someone suggested removing them and just work with mulch, or plain old soil.
But the garden looks nice.

My garden is so pitiful. In fact, few would call it a garden as I've tried the deck version and failed abysmally. In short, we will not be surviving a famine this year. If you have some time ............

Your garden is lovely.
Glad to hear you're getting some work, L. Penny's freelance experience has been one of increasing opportunity, especially in the last two of her eight work-from-home years. Her income this year will probably triple, despite all the general economic woes. Keep writin'!
