I wasn’t going to write about this, out of respect for other people’s privacy, but things have changed. This is too important to keep silent.
Sometime in the wee hours of Sunday morning, my daughter’s boyfriend, Dan, had a terrible accident. He fell down the basement stairs of his home, injuring his head. He was unconscious on Sunday, and things were touch-and-go. He and Amy have been dating for over a year, so she knows the family well. She’s been at the hospital with them every day.
On Monday, Dan improved. He regained consciousness, and was even sitting up for a little while, though he was still sedated. On Tuesday, he continued to improve. He was talking, he recognized everyone, he could go down for X-rays.
And Amy’s been with him for much of the time. Her family says she’s been invaluable. See, she truly loves this boy. With all the heart that a 17-year-old can muster, she loves him. You remember being 17 and truly in love? Maybe you still know what that feels like, because you are married to the person you loved when you were 17. Well, Amy loves Dan like that.
Today she called me, asking to be excused from school. Dan suddenly suffered a seizure. He’s unconscious again, is not responding and on a ventilator. There may be some swelling of his brain. They don’t know when or whether he will wake up again. As you can imagine, Amy is beside herself with fear and grief.
Won’t you please pray for us?
Done and doing. May Christ be with you all in this difficult time.
