COVID cases tapered off in June, enough so that more businesses could open. My women's Bible class met in person -- wearing masks, socially distanced, door open for ventilation. I was able to go back to the dentist and dermatologist. I had a FaceTime appointment with my nephrologist. Hair salons reopened, so I was able to get a haircut; I'm letting my gray grow out -- it's not that noticeable, depending on whether the front is pinned back or not. Jane had a parking lot Jazzercise class on a Saturday morning and it was wonderful to see old friends and exercise out in the fresh air!!
Ken and I started working in the garden, laying mulch and planting herbs, bee balm and milkweed. It was great to be outside every day. I wasn't able to keep that up, even though I meant to, but it was so great for a while.
Our new pastor was ordained at Historic Trinity, and the service was live-streamed. St. Paul started in-person worship services, but we are not attending. Their masking policy is wildly inconsistent. I was hoping they would go the extra mile to be careful, but they aren't. Pastor was installed on June 28; we watched the service on live-stream.
Sometimes it felt like the world was literally burning down. Riots continued in major cities with lots of property destruction; protestors seek racial justice. Wildfires rage in the West, especially California and Oregon. My personal racial bias weighed on my mind; I put several classic books by black authors on my reading list. Read "Between the World and Me" and "Their Eyes Were Watching God."
